SHOW: Angry Woebot @ Split Obsession Hawaii

Aaron Martin, aka Angry Woebot of Pocket Full of Monsters, first came to my attention when I saw his work in a collabro piece he did with NYC's Phallic Mammary. [He's] easily one of the most distinct character artists working in the underground scene, with gorgeous, calligraphic lines, iconic imagery, clever canvases he simply OWNS, and a ferociously adorable style featuring disgruntled giant pandas. He's in his home state of Hawaii for a show opening today at Honolulu's awesome Split Obsession gallery and shop...

ART: Erik Abel Holiday Sale Continues

I've written about Portland artist Erik Abel on here a couple times before, and there couldn't be a better time for me to remind you about him once more as he's continuing his massive holiday sale into January. With shows on both coasts this year (Art Whino in DC, and Thinkspace in LA), and prices that were already deals now bordering on steals...

7/8 PRINT: Candykiller Coney Print

Artist Brian "Candykiller" Taylor and paper and printing enthusiasts Letter Pressed are each now taking pre-orders for the Coney Letterpress Print designed to accompany the upcoming release of the Coney plush figures. I'm new to Taylor's work, but I know what I like, and I like this.

$37-$41

Brian and Letter Pressed each have half, or 50, of the small edition of 100, and they're set to be released around the end of this month. The hand signed and numbered prints are small at 8" X 10", but Letter Pressed is primarily a card maker and the quality and production values look to be top notch; 2-color inked letterpress on 300 gm Somerset off-white art paper.

Retail with shipping and handling is $41 from Letter Pressed, a good deal, but I'm ordering mine direct from Brian where the total price is $37, plus he'll throw in a few extra Candykiller goodies with your order when the time comes to ship. Drop him a line for details: brian@candykiller.com.

There's more to be seen and read at his Candykiller.com website and blog. I'd order fast because these are supercool and that's a small run!

7/6 PRINT: Buff Monster at Metropark

LA Grafittist Buff Monster has, by virtue of talents both artistic and entrepreneurial, turned a love for pornography, ice cream, and heavy metal into a successful and profitable career. He's papered hand silk-screened posters all around this great big world, shown in numerous galleries (I picked up a beloved print set at Gallery 1988 LA a few months back), and later this month releases a custom vinyl line from Mindstyle (website currently not very helpful). But I write today to inform you of the limited edition prints available exclusively at trendy lifestyle boutiquery MetroPark.

San Francisco Invasion is released in a comfy edition of 200, and all are hand signed and numbered by BM himself. The prints are a supersweet 18 x 24 and retail for a modest $50. MetroPark also sent some of their stores framed prints from the series and these retail for $150. This is both good and bad, because, hey, you get the work framed for an extra 100 clams if you don't want the hassle; but I like to make framing and glass choices myself and would be surprised all to hell if these things are framed archivally and behind UV treated plexi.

There are about 20 Metropark locations in the States and unless you're near one, you'll need to order from the website. But, with my preference for 7's I had to do some calling around and can now tell you which stores have which numbers in Texas and Ohio.
