SHOW: Move Over Kidrobot - Rob Tarbell's Struggles @ Second Street Tonight in CVA

There are lots of graphic artists and painters out there bridging the gap between "low-" and "high-brow" art, but sculptors are a bit rarer. Enter cross-media artist Rob Tarbell, who's come up with my favorite liminal artworks yet, The Struggles, on display tonight at Second Street Gallery...

7/19 SHOW: Kathie Olivas at Copro/Nason in LA

7" tall
$650

Ok, so these are simply too cool to wait for.

24" x 36"
$3800

Copro/Nason gallery in Santa Monica has released a web preview of Kathie Olivas' upcoming solo show, her second in LA, and the images are too, too intensely awesome.

14" x 11"
$900

As if the assortment of sugary, dark paintings are not enough, the 2-D pieces are complemented by more than a dozen equally creepy-sweet custom vinyl pieces that are real wallet busters though worth every penny.

8" tall
$700

20" tall
$2000

Modified Teeters, Munnys, Dunnys, Dunces, MadL's, and Qees have never looked so delicious. The attention to detail is exquisite and the imaginative iterations delight from toy to toy. Small paintings can be had for a steal at $700-$800, while larger ones will set you back $2000-$3000, at which point it becomes hard to decide if you want to invest in sculpture or wall pieces.

20" x 16"
$1500

That is a decision you'll have to make on your own, but I can tell you without a doubt that you should buy some Olivas. I encourage you to act fast too; Copro/Nason just announced the web preview today and it looks like 1/3 of the show has already sold. There may be very little left for purchase at the actual opening, which isn't until August 11th!
